The film industry is inaccessible to newcomers and students, and gaining exposure is getting increasingly difficult. The Rise Film Festival was a collaborative project created by students, for students, with the intention to showcase student films and celebrate their achievements.
The name ‘Rise Film Festival’ was chosen to represent the rise these students are beginning with their careers. The logo conveys this message by having the ‘E’ rise upwards and link to the ‘F’s. The two parallel lines here are implemented throughout our brand.
Rise Film Festival
After receiving a range of film submissions, we began promoting the event using posters which featured the motif of travelling parallel lines. For individual film posters, the focus remained on the film imagery, with the brand remaining subtly present moving behind figures within the film.
To attract extra attention, I created a series of huge stair installations featuring our logo rising up stairs frequented by Falmouth students, further promoting our event.

Film Posters
A programme was designed to showcase all those involved in any submissions’ production. Our motif of parallel lines is further implemented as when placed together, the backs of all programmes are connected by the two lines.

Website
A website/archive of all the films featured within the event was created to further showcase to these creators.
With extensive promotion, the event was a success with a huge turnout and amazing feedback from attendees. Since completing this project, I was proud to win the award for Digital Design at the South West Design + Digital Student Awards.
This was an amazing honour, and confirmation of the success of the project. The Rise Film Festival was continued the following year with other students at Falmouth Uni.
